Since September 2018 the OptiMaaS partners have been investigating the potentials of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) schemes for urban non-core areas based on examples in Vienna and Oslo. Within our research project we observed that peripheral urban areas tend to be less populated than the core areas of a city, reducing the amount of potential users for a MaaS scheme or for shared mobility services. Due to this it is more difficult for commercial transport service providers to work profitably in peripheral areas. Finally, there are less mobility services available in urban non-core areas. Therefore, car dependency and car use are usually higher.
The results of the questionnaire and main project findings will be presented in the upcoming “International Expert Panel – IEP” in February 2021 which will be done online.
