OptiMaaS spreads the word! https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1161 Tue, 09 Mar 2021 13:36:09 +0000 https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1161 A diverse European group of experts discussed the integrated insights generated in the OptiMaaS project. In our final international expert panel (IEP), we zoomed into different layers of mobility as a service.

OptiMaaS integrates the user’s perspective as well as urban planning, policies and financing models, IT-development on diverse simulations and app-prototypes. Impulse presentations on the main insights were the input for debates during our breakout sessions.

source: tbw research

Change can be initiated by setting both, enabling and restricting actions. Therefore, the government’s decisions are playing a big role in our mobility choice and long-term urban development visions are key. Harmonization of national and municipal strategies, provision of (public) space, and responsibility for a digital booking infrastructure  – just to name a few – are the core conclusions of OptiMaaS Policy Labs.

To change the user’s mobility behaviour, several alternatives of sharing vehicles are needed. OptiMaaS investigated mobility points within urban non-core areas in Vienna and Oslo to assess their impact on changing mobility patterns. Besides that, many different factors like financing models, localization and setup of organizational rules for providers have to be considered.

In order to create a connection between the user and the provider, and to change mobility behaviour, an App is often a key instrument. Within OptiMaaS Labs, users had the chance to give input in the design process of an App and express preferences for new On Demand mobility offers. Many users wish that the app should be working within an established MaaS system.

Predicting future mobility choice is not entirely feasible and accurate, but simulation of users’ mobility can help planners with their decisions. For data-driven planning, we build a digital twin of the city or part of it. This is not an easy task as data often is not available as necessary, thereby increasing the complexity for building such simulations.

The insights presented and discussed, confirmed by in-depth analyses and conclusions can soon be found in in the OptiMaaS recommendations we are currently working on – Date of publication end of May.

Get involved! – Take part in our international expert-questionnaire! https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1075 Wed, 14 Oct 2020 06:40:05 +0000 https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1075 What is the key to establish Mobility as a Service in urban non-core areas? How can the often announced mobility transition become reality? Join our questionnaire and share your expertise!

We are looking forward to your answers on some of our findings about fostering the implementation of MaaS in urban non-core areas. If you are an expert in the fields of mobility, transport policies, urban development, urban planning, mobility operations or similar you are highly welcome to participate in our questionnaire. It will take you about 7 minutes. Just follow this link: https://de.surveymonkey.com/r/IEP_Questionnaire

Since September 2018 the OptiMaaS partners have been investigating the potentials of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) schemes for urban non-core areas based on examples in Vienna and Oslo. Within our research project we observed that peripheral urban areas tend to be less populated than the core areas of a city, reducing the amount of potential users for a MaaS scheme or for shared mobility services. Due to this it is more difficult for commercial transport service providers to work profitably in peripheral areas. Finally, there are less mobility services available in urban non-core areas. Therefore, car dependency and car use are usually higher.

The results of the questionnaire and main project findings will be presented in the upcoming “International Expert Panel – IEP” in February 2021 which will be done online. You want to get an invitation and be one of the first informed about our research results? – Please enter your email address at the end of the questionnaire or send us an email.

Co Creation Lab in Salzburg – a success! https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1041 Thu, 24 Sep 2020 12:17:07 +0000 https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1041 Test persons created an on-demand mobility service app meeting their expectations.

After productive Co Creation Labs (CC-Lab) in Vienna and Kapfenberg another one was planned to take place in Salzburg in April. Due to the pandemic it has been postponed to August and successfully completed, under Austria’s Covid-19 measures. Six test persons from a wide range of age defined a user experience for an on-demand service application, for three different scenarios.

Often, the development of applications is done by software developers and UX-experts only (1). The idea of the CC-Lab developed for the OptiMaaS-UX-design approach is to work with potential users. Together they design the look-and-feel of relevant app-screens for organising and booking an on-demand service.

The first phase of the CC-Lab was labelled as “exploration”, which means moving from an idea towards the concept of an on-demand IT-solution. The main goal of this stage was getting an overview of the current habits and practices of users. In doing so, we were focusing on the current problems they are facing by organizing an on-demand service, taking into account the specific contexts in which these problems occur. In the second phase of the workshop, the participants had the task to develop their vision of screenflows of the app.

By working collaboratively with potential users from different backgrounds, we aimed at collecting a variety of ideas for features, functionalities and flows. Non-objectives were to describe quality and quantity of the service or to develop a pricing scheme. The participants were recruited according to OptiMaaS-personas, which should simulate the future users of the apps and services developed in OptiMaaS.

The Usability and Acceptance Lab has started https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1003 Mon, 24 Aug 2020 08:55:13 +0000 https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=1003 We learn from users, from different target groups and urban non-core areas, how on-demand service Apps can make a difference in real life situations.

Another OptiMaaS-Lab has started in Vienna, the Usability and Acceptance Lab (UA-L). Diverse (age, family status, sex, gender, education) future users are testing the prototype designed by other users within our Co Creation Design Lab (CC-L).

Focusing on our target group, we are working with the method of personas, these simulate or stereotype the future users. Within the CC-Laba highly innovative UX-design approach was chosen. User engagement allowed users to be their own designers. The prototype that was developed, based on these designs, does not provide all functionalities but shows the whole on-demand process.

Technically, the prototype is a “clickdummy”, which means that it is clickable but not connected to backend intelligence. The testing takes place in 1:1 sessions, where the test person is invited to click through the app and explain every step he/she makes, the so called “Thinking aloud” method. During the UA-Lab, this method will provide important insights and findings on the user behaviour, concerning functionalities and preferences, both on a structured and qualitative level.

Learnings from this UA-Lab will help OptiMaaS to further develop and improve Guidelines for implementing mobility services into MaaS-platforms e.g. interface definitions and technical guidelines, APIs and UX-design.

OptiMaaS Integrated Mobility Lab goes live in Vienna! https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=992 Tue, 14 Jul 2020 09:50:09 +0000 https://www.optimaas.eu/?p=992 Pilot testing of mobility bundles and pricing models integrating public transportation and shared vehicles

Since June 2020 Inhabitants of the housing project “Wohnen an den Blumenwegen” as well as neighbours are able to test two new mobility packages combining e-mobility sharing services with public transport tickets.

Within the OptiMaaS Integrated Mobilty Lab project partners are testing new business strategies and pricing models for the integration of public transportation and sharing offers within urban non-core areas. For this, the Mobility Point Blumenwege was chosen as one of four different Labs within OptiMaaS. Inhabitants living in the new housing project “Wohnen an den Blumenwegen” in the 22nd District of Vienna are able to use e-mobility sharing services since mid-2019 when they moved in. Now two additional mobility packages were introduced, combining attractive tariffs for car-, bike- and moped-sharing with public transport tickets. The mobility packages will be offered from June 2020 within the OptiMaaS Project for a 5 months pilot phase. The Integrated Mobility Lab aims at evaluating the user acceptance of mobility packages and changes in user behavior, in order to improve the understanding of user needs in peripheral areas.

If you are interested in booking  services please register online via the MO. Point Website (www.mopoint.at/blumenwege).  Currently the integration of the services of MO.Point into the public transport application Wien Mobil of Wiener Linien is running. After the go live in summer the services of MO.Point will be considered in the platform’s routing information.

The offers include six different tariff packages: Range goes from MO.Basic, which contains E-carsharing, E-moped and E-Bike-sharing for an hourly rate without a monthly fee, up to the package MO.XLarge which includes the above mentioned offers for a cheaper hourly rate. For a monthly fee of 55€, an 8 day public transport ticket worth 40,8€ and 30€ drive credit are included in the package XLarge.
